While the lifestyles of many people and families are markedly different from one or two generations ago, not all of the changes have been bad. Yes, there is a more sedentary pace to modern life and there is more temptation with regards food and leisure activities. However, there has never been more information and guidance available with respect to nutrition. This means that everyone can get the information and advice they require to be able to make sensible decisions regarding the nutrition that they take on board.
This is especially helpful for parents that are looking to ensure that their children get the best help in growth and development. Healthy nutrition is a key aspect of growth and development for a child and this is true from their first days. Adults need to be aware of the nutritional value that they get from food but when it comes to children, the role that nutrition plays is absolutely crucial.
The role of nutrition is very important and we are far better equipped at knowing how the body deals with the nutrients found in food and how these are digested, absorbed, stored and even excreted.
With respect to growth, the general considerations are based on weight and height with respect to age. A child will be continually growing from their birth but not every child grows at the same rate and the growth rate of an individual child is far from being a uniform process. The growth of a child is considered to be the best measurement of whether they are getting the proper nutrition. The main periods of rapid growth for a child come at an early age and then again during adolescence.
The key nutrients require for growth and development are protein, carbohydrates and fats and vitamins and minerals. Protein is essential for growth and helping body tissues to repair. Some of the most common foods containing good sources of protein are chicken, fish, eggs and nuts. Carbs and fats help to provide the energy that people need to keep going and to be active. Carbs can be found from grains and cereals whereas fats are found in certain protein foods and can be found in butter, oil and margarine. It is important to be aware that not all fats are bad, with the fatty Omega 3 oil providing a boost to the body. Vitamins and minerals also help to give the body a boost in staying healthy. These nutrients are commonly taken from vegetables and fruit.
The benefits of following a nutritious lifestyle include being mentally alert and being physically fit. It will also help children to avoid being sick and it should help children to be able to perform to a higher level. All of these elements combined provide the perfect platform for children to grow and develop at a proper and natural rate. Children who are healthy and are able to undertake activities will find that they can take part in more activities, which creates a cycle of a healthy lifestyle.
