While everyone knows that sleep is important, it can be easy to overlook why sleep is important. Recharging our batteries to go at life again on another day is a reason to get a good amount of sleep but there are serious benefits that come along with getting a regular amount of sleep so don’t take it for granted.
Sleeping regularly can help you to keep a good shape and figure. This is down to the fact that when you lack a good night’s sleep, your metabolism slows down. This makes it harder to shift weight so if you want to stay trim, make sure you get a good eight hours sleep at night.
Regular sleep helps you to concentrate and it helps you to feel in a better mood. We’ve all had days when we couldn’t sleep and then we either sleep-walked our way through the day or ended up being irritable and short with people around us. If you want to be sharp and friendly, make sure that you get to your bed and get some great sleep.
You will have heard about the term ‘beauty sleep’ and it turns out that this is partly true! A study undertaken in 2010 which was published by the British Medical journal showcased findings that people who had a regular 8 hours sleep looked more attractive than people who had been deprived of sleep.
There have also been medical findings that people who get six hours sleep or less at night are more at risk of dying at an early age. This is in comparison to people who get 7 or 8 hours sleep at night. The problem with this finding is that it is likely to give you sleepless nights with worry!
Perhaps related to the above fact is the study that suggested people who get less sleep have an immune system that is weaker. This will increase the likelihood of falling ill or catching the common cold. If you are under the weather, you are not at your best and this means that you won’t be able to perform, study, work or workout at the level that you want to. It may be a little thing but not getting enough sleep does have the impact to have a hugely negative impact on your daily routine.
It also seems that getting regular sleep is a great way to boost your performance in the sporting arena and in bed. Separate studies comparing performances of people who had 6 hours sleep a night to those who got the recommended 8 hours a night showed that the endurance was higher. If you are looking to last longer at your chosen activity, it can be of benefit to ensure that you are properly rested.
No matter what you hope to achieve during the working day, you should find that getting more sleep is the best way to set yourself up properly for a busy and productive day.
