Losing weight can be a stressful and traumatic time for many people. Getting out of your comfort zone is often enough to leave people feeling far from their best. Add to this a change in diet and undertaking more exercise and it becomes easy to see why many folk are frustrated when trying to lose weight. This means that if the weight is not falling off as fast as you would like it to, some people will become very annoyed. However, there are many reasons why people may not be losing weight as quickly as they like and some or many of these could apply to you.
Firstly, you may not be easting as healthily as you think you are. There are lots of low calories and diet products on the market but these are not providing you with the nutrients that you need. People can often become fixated on calories but there is a need to get the right nutrients into your body and this is where processed food will often let people down.
If you are under stress, you may not lose as much weight. This is because the body, in times of stress, will produce a hormone called cortisol which encourages the storage of fat. In ancient times when humans were faced with really difficult or life threatening situations, the survival instincts would kick in and the body would react in this manner. Nowadays, stress comes in all manner of forms but the bodies reaction has stayed the same.
While your bathroom scales may not say you are losing any weight, you could be getting healthier. If you are adding muscle to your body you will be getting healthier and fitter but perhaps not slimmer or lighter. It is important to measure your main muscles and to keep an eye on your clothing. The scales in your bathroom are not always the best indicator of how fit and healthy you are.
Another factor that can impact on a persons attempt to lose weight is a lack of sleep. If you have a slow metabolism, you will find it more difficult to lose weight and a lack of sleep will slow your metabolism down. It is recommended that you get around 8 hours sleep a night if you want to be active, alert and for your body to be pulling in the same direction as you when it comes to losing weight.
It is important to remember if you want to lose weight that cardio is not the be all and end all. Interval training is definitely a good thing to get your heart rate up but to lose weight; you need to use weights too. This is something that many people will prefer to avoid but anyone that is serious about weight loss should turn to weights to really shed the fat and the lbs.
You also need to make sure that you give yourself enough time to meet your fitness goals.
